Every Soldier
of the Cross has a current situation that requires he yield to
the Lord and choose the Cross over a human
solution. There are no exceptions. It is easy to look at another and think something is wrong with you because there is a situation that results in significant unpleasantness. You see, that is absolutely untrue. If you are a true Soldier, you don't rant and rave about the thing that is difficult for you. You pray about it, and you feel desperate about it. In fact, you may feel you can't get away from it. Those looking at you don't have any idea. The Cross is not a collection of hard things we must ride out. Rather is is the place of the death of the flesh, and the place of private desperation and critical crossroad of choice. The evidence of a Soldier 's choosing the Cross is public release and joy, unbridled attention to others and the Presence of the Lord - even though the Soldier will not feel glorious about himself in this life. We do what we do because He promised we could trust Him, and because He has commanded. There is not one tiny little thing left to chance or left to our own little myopic solution - it all comes off and is obliterated when the Soldier takes up his Cross, and follows the Lover of His Soul! |
