Making excuses
is a habit. But it is a habit that can be broken by the Power of the Holy Spirit. There are some human habits that can change by sheer human willpower, but this one can only change supernaturally. Making excuses is an attempt to bring justification to one's self, and it assumes the speaker has the actual insight to make the explanation. Only when we stop attempting to justify ourselves can we be effective and serve as Soldiers of the Cross. It is so common: "Yes, I did it. It was wrong, but I did it because. . ." and there we go - giving a reason that is intended to be a balance for the thing done or not done. One of the greatest treasures we have as believers is the privilege of coming before Him and acknowledging our sin. He is then quick to forgive us and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Oh, Soldier, you don't have time to waste on words applied to things already done unless it is to credit the Lord of our Salvation. If we had been able to figure it out all along, we would not have needed a Savior! |
