Understanding
is a quality of the Lord. Understanding is neither empathy or sympathy. Rather it encircles an insight that is not human and comes through availability. It is possible for those without Christ to have a measure of human understanding and we see evidence of it all the time. But we who are the Lord's need godly understanding. That means we must see beyond the situation and even without actual knowledge, enter the situation in parallel to the insight, assertions and reactions of the person with whom we are dealing. The understanding that is offered to us from above is way out of our league, but still, we are instructed to be men and women of understanding. These heavenly insights and traits are never gained outside of prayer, and if they are important to the Lord, they ought to be important to us. What a stunning thing that He has chosen to minister this magnificent, healing balm through sinners, saved by grace! |
