The Soldier
who considers he must live the Christian life with consuming
vigor is a rare bird! There are many who have a religious zeal, but that is not what Paul speaks of when he says we must be "aglow and burning with zeal. " He is talking about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit opens the eyes of the servant of the Lord when he longs to be taught to put down his own life in order to find the Life of the Lord. That Soldier will see beyond the horizon of most Christians, and what he sees will give him a supernatural energy to pursue issues in prayerand in waiting. The greatest drain on the Soldier of the Cross is thinking of self. Failure. Money Weakness. Misunderstanding. Illness. But the Holy Spirit brings sight that circumvents these things, and reveals Jesus. What keeps us going is who Jesus is. It is His loveliness that inspires awe. It is the stunning piercing depth and simplicity of His Word that separates the important from the unimportant. Soldier, we deliberately and with intention, move away from issues of self and pick up the Cross - the place where self is put to death and all those things loose their appeal. As I have said before, look up and move on! |
