You must take
hold of the Lord. Yes, all is true that He has said: He is never far, he will never leave us nor forsake us, and his angels watch us lest we should dash a foot against a stone. But a Christian can't sit passively and wait for the Lord to light his fire. He must reach out and take to himself the things that are available. For example, making the decision to honor the Word of God in the thing must take place before you will make room for the Holy Spirit. Is it filling the next gas tank? Is it wiping the next dirty nose? It doesn't matter. Each thing that is the next thing is an opportunity to obey and glorify the Lord in attitude. He is quick to respond and sweeps in with heaven's thoughts and heaven's thoughts are always reflected in the emotions. I am often accused of being rigid and I would fail modern psychology tests, because I still believe in black and white. I also know about and have experienced the gentle tidal wave of the Holy Spirit in response to obedience when other choices called more loudly. We must live and use each moment to take what is ours - by obedience. Are you in prison ? The blackest heart in your cell block can be melted by Jesus. Do your assignments with more vigor. Memorize more. Write letters to other inmates or those on the outside who need ministry. After all, that is what Paul did, and he was in chains with a bleeding back! This life is short and eternity is without measure. Oh Soldier of the Cross! Stand at attention and present yourself - let Him know in prayer that you are a Soldier, ready for service! |
