Today I listened
to the magnificent and edifying open heart of a Soldier who expects
to die in the next several weeks. She has cancer and it has spread to her liver, so it cannot be treated. Many Christians have approached her and tried to persuade her that God wants to heal her, but she knows better. Of course He can and does heal. No question about that. But the thing that stuck me was that in her final days, she is clear that submission is the critical issue, and that the Lord will reveal Himself and heal the inner man until the minute of death if He is allowed. She is young - under forty, and clearly in pain. But her final statement is one that I will never forget. She said: "It is my prayer and deepest desire to avoid the problem of living dying. I want to die Living!" Only A Soldier of the Cross can make that statement. |
