God's Word promises
that the one who dwells in the "secret place" of the Lord
remains stable and calm. Hm-m-m-m. That certainly does not describe many Christians, does it. The secret place is one of protection and separation from danger. And, as an addendum, the verse goes on to say the child of God finds this refuge "under the shadow of the Almighty." The secret place is one open to those covered by the Blood and is thrown open to those who ask and relentlessly seek Him in distress. But it is not a place found by those who seek Him only in distress. It is a haven that calls to the Soldier of the Cross all the time as he presses to separate from the tug and pressures of the world. The one who runs to the Lord before trying his own solutions will run easily to Him when the storm howls. The one who does not usually consider God first often sets up a fuss to whomever and whatever might be listening, rather than addressing a sovereign Lord who he knows is in control. The Psalmist goes on to say that the secret place enables the believer to be an observer only. That means that this beautiful place is one of faith. It is one of grace. It is one of love. And it is one open to all - that is, all who are willing and eager to cling to the One who is our Fortress and High Tower! |
