When obedience
is the goal rather than the result of the action, there is no
room for burn-out or frustration. This is one of the reasons there are so few calm and contented Christian workers today. The issue is obedient living and the Word of God teaches us an unambiguous way of life. We have the privilege of intimate prayer and we know without a doubt that it is He who gives the increase. Yet, even in child-rearing, believing parents are listening to the advice of those who are trying to equip parents for a guaranteed outcome of the child, rather than teaching them to live and teaching them to train their children simply and without fear. We say "no" because the thing is not right. If the other person (adult or child) does not like it, that does not cheapen or discredit the "no." Jesus did not compromise to try to soften the pharisees or help them understand. When they were stubborn and did all they could to trap Him, He did not either give in or lick His wounds. But He did die for them. It wasn't about what they did, it was about what He did. And it still is, today. |
