You are not
allowed to have Jesus and at the same time harbor desires for
human things. Why do you think Life pours forth from the verses of the Pauline epistles? Because he did not consider it better to be out of prison than to be in prison. I do not for a minute think that the Lord gave him some kind of ability to refuse pain or to avoid loneliness when all deserted him. Nor do I think the needs of the Church came to him without anguish. But he knew that the Lord knew best. And He still does. Is your yearning for a resolution to a broken relationship? Are you living in a manner that you think should not be? Do people think less of you than they should? Are you wishing you could see around the corner? Give it up. In prayer. Outloud. If you don't do it this way, you are not doing it. Then, the desires of your heart will take on heaven's agenda, and you will be able to see the pillar of smoke by day and the fire by night. The most important thing is to present yourself as a living sacrifice. And, what living sacrifice ever laid on the alter, waving a paper with a list of minimum requirements for the Lord to meet? Never! |
