Why does it
seem the Lord takes good things away from us? Because we have set our sights on the things that we want, but perceive as good only because we have finite knowledge. Faith takes His Word as fact when He says He will not withhold from us any good thing. The flesh is much like a child - the little one calls good the thing he wants so much, and often the parent can clearly see the imminent destruction that will result if it is not taken away. Other times, the parent knows that although the thing clutched tightly in the little hand is cherished, something else would mean more to the little heart when in the little hand. We must take Him at His Word. He doesn't remove anything that leaves a vacuum. He is not a recreational Lord, and He does not forget or ignore our deepest needs. We, however, don't even know our own hearts and we certainly don't know our deepest needs by our own senses. We do know that we need Him more than anything, and the Soldier of the Cross who will submit to obedience in prayer, praying for the things that are eternal, will find it cleaner and less painful to thank Him for His sovereign Hand and submit to the One Who loves beyond measure. |
