We must have
a healthy fear of God.
While it is foremost to consider
the Love of God, the Soldier of the Cross must understand there
are absolute consequences for sin, and there ought to be
a healthy fear of the holiness of the Lord.
Believers today must see Him as
not only sovereign, but as a Holy God who must be obeyed. Many
have a tendency to think that He is like a trading post - the
more good we do, the more good He does back.
Not so.
He has set up certain laws and
they remain unbroken. Yes, there is healing, and yes, He can
restore the years the locusts have eaten. He forgives and He
gives Grace.
But lying releases hell. So does
adultery, covetousness, laziness, etc.
We must live by the Word of God
- for the next hour. We must understand that if there has been
sin, we must come to prayer and think back to the thread of thoughts
that were woven about and through the sin and repent of them.
The believer who realizes his need
to be clean before the Lord will simply submit, repent and he
will not continue to self-examine to make himself better, because
he has presented himself without reservation.
Time is short and eternity is without
measure. We must not entrench.
Rather, we must prepare.
