You need a fresh
feasting on the Bible each day If you do not have the Word of God riding the crest of your thoughts, the mind will gnaw on the closest thing it can find that is not resolved satisfactorily. And that is sin. I have heard all the excuses, but there is only one reason believers do not go to the Word daily - they simply have no idea who God really is. They do not believe He speaks powerfully on each page nor do they understand the blindness that results from running the race on yesterday's nutrition. We were not made to be like camels - getting a lot at once and then living on it for days or weeks at a time. Camel Christians are myopic, have all the correct answers for everyone else, and can actually be tremendously helpful in times of need. They are usually well taught and are always ground to the bone from non-essential busyness. They are also always miserable. If the Word is taken in, it will suffice for the day. Yes, we remember other verses, but Jesus is so present and beautiful because He supernaturally reminds us of Himself for those waking hours. It can't be helped. If you read it, you will think about it. A man with a bag glued to his head will grope and make guesses and be frustrated when he bumps against the unexpected. But a man in the blackest of nights will be confident for the next step if he has only the tiniest candle. Be a candle Christian - not a camel Christian! |
