Do not be easily
distracted. The thing the enemy uses to distract us is feelings. Often the feelings are not those that are immediately identified as negative. For example there is a feeling of righteous indignation that isn't righteous at all. We see it around us all the time when Christians get more steamed up about political issues than they do about the lost. These emotions are the result of being stirred up by rhetoric that is designed to do just that - bring about a strong emotion that will result in an action. There are some the Lord has appointed to cry out in the wilderness, but that is not what I am talking to you about. We must be careful about lending our ears. The Soldier of the Cross who has recently been alone with the Lord will have no trouble discerning the things that will entangle him in daily life. People are quick to carry a banner, to march to somewhere about something and to press persuasive literature on others. But usually, the same people are slow to memorize the Word afresh and slow to visit the prayer closet. Christian activity must travel down a road that is opened up a foot at a time by prayer - not the "please bless what I am doing, Lord" prayer. What is needed is prayer that makes the way for Him to reveal Himself and convict men of sin. |
