No one has ever
been saved because of a great preacher. Only because of a great God! We who have begged to be used as servants must accept the fact that is not through our tremendous gifts or the use of them that people come to the Lord. Rather, it is because of the grace of God and His inexplicable Love which exceeds all human understanding. The Soldier of the Cross must never look for personal satisfaction in serving - that is, there will not be that self-satisfied assurance of a job well-done and all things accomplished that should be. If a Servant of the Lord wants that, he will be crippled and will always be vulnerable to the enemy's attack in that area. We are the clay. We are the vessel. He works through us and, hallelujah, in us. but even though He uses us, He does not rely on us. We rely on Him. All too often a teacher or preacher will feel as though he has failed when he does not have satisfying feedback on a message or ministry effort. We must press in prayer to be released in this area. The thing we crave at that time is the stroke to the soul that it has done well and has found in itself the resources to meet the demand. The Lord does not reveal Himself but by dependence on the Holy Spirit. When this is clear, we can be free to serve. |
