What is the
race, anyway?
The race that Paul refers to is
a picture of the collection, concentration and By
goal-oriented motion the life of a believer should display.
When one is running a race, he
is not dwelling on other things. He is thinking of the ground
passing below him, he is seeing the things he is passing and
while he can not focus on other racers, he is keenly aware of
them.
One who is running a race is not
carrying things in his arms, but is free to move them in a way
that will compliment his other motions. He is putting his all
into what he is doing, and that is one of the most important
things that allows him to run his best.
He knows it will be over. He knows
he will push beyond his natural capacity and he knows there will
be a time when the race is done.
We must be reminded over and over
that time is but a fleeting moment and eternity is without measure.
We must be willing to leave all
behind that would encumber and press on beyond natural capacity.
And someday, it will be over. The
goal? No more worry. No more sin or heartache. Eternal, unbridled
fellowship with the saints.
We will bask in His presence -
for ever and ever!
