We are much
too occupied with what others think of us.
The important thing is, are we
obeying the Master?
My dearest friends are those who
assume the best and about whose reactions I don't need to worry.
It is wonderful and I find them refreshing at every level.
But according to the Word of God,
my relationships are not to be based on my ability to unload
myself on the other, or their positive reaction to me. I am to
be a minister of Life in every relationship of my time here.
C. T. Studd told a friend he didn't
want to marry, but if he had to marry, he wanted a "Salvation
Army, Hallelujah lassie!"
He found one.
And you should read her letters
from China - in the throws of the greatest hardships and discouragement,
she was determined to put her own sorrow and negative reactions
and fears aside in order to present herself to the Living God
as a Sacrifice for service. Even in the loss of a child, which
is the most difficult thing a woman can experience, she determined
that her mouth would declare Truth rather than the devastation
she felt.
In an era of remarkable emotional
indulgence, we need to pull back and consider the Word of God,
and only the Word of God.
Oh, how I desperately long to let
the Lord make me into a Salvation Army, Hallelujah lassie!
