It is usually
the petty little things of everyday living that get us distracted. Usually it is something someone says or does that is unpleasant or out of control, or often we are not able to have the thing that we think fits the need. The writer to the Hebrews says ". . .let us drop all that would encumber. . ." That means the Soldier of the Cross must be conscious of his thoughts and must do something about them. The mind does not usually whirl around eternity and the holiness of God. When those things come up, there is illumination and solidness. It is when the petty things come up the Soldier can be undone. The mind tends to review and review the piercing word or missed opportunity. The mind loves to chew itself to death over unpaid bills or a mate who seems disinterested. We have a Lord who watches over every tiny thing, and He is either true, or it He is not. The Bible is true, or it is not. It is not our belief that has power, but the One Who is the object of our faith. He has all power. We have no power of our own. Therefore, we must obey in the area of the mind. After all, that is where the battle is. Stubbornness is not a virtue - it is foolish. Let us be eager to let go of the temporal and take all He has - look up. Move on! . |
