Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

As a Sunday School teacher, I had one of life's greatest thrills this week:
A ten year old boy decided he would visit a nursing home near his house. He has
seen a crew from the church going weekly to several homes since the day he was
born and has heard some wonderful stories. In fact, he has come several times and
has sung and helped.
Nursing homes are particularly difficult for most because they invariably smell of
urine and feces, and because people go there to die. Our church has taken seriously
the responsibility of this outreach, but it has not been emphasized over any other
ministry.
But, last week, Mike marched into the nursing home with his bible under his arm
and asked if he could teach a bible class there. Without any hesitation, the woman at
the desk looked at the child and said "We have been waiting for you for a long time!"
Mike will be11 soon, and in this important year, he will learn a great deal. He will
see the Lord save some, and he will see others get harder. But the important thing is,
he has responded to the need right in his own neighborhood.
Mike is going in on Friday afternoons, usually by himself, but of course, all of us are
here to support him. He has decided he will bring in other children to sing and give
testimonies and he wants to have his grandmother in "once in a while" because she
speaks in a retirement home twice a month and has done so for years. She is also
filled with the Lord, and Mike is no dummy!
Soldier, the Lord encourages us not by pats on the back, or by the resolution to
immediate problems (although He certainly does attend to our needs), but by the
incredible and stunning evidence of His glorious work in one another.
I have seldom been this thrilled!
