You must pursue the Lord. By that, I mean there must be an affirmative, active response to His commands and you must consciously choose each day and each hour to be set aside for Him. You must delve into His Word even when the body resists with a lack of energy or when the schedule mocks you. Private prayer must be outloud. Yes, there is prayer that goes forth all day, and it it uttered silently as events occur. But if there is no time of private prayer when you stand or sit or kneel before Him, there is no prayer life and you have not yet discovered that stunning and glorious Place - the Throne of Grace. It is possible to do good works all the time and never press to follow Him. It is even possible to pastor large churches and be involved in evangelism programs and remain clueless about the Pursuit of God. In order to go after Him, you must go where He is - where He burns hot. You must take the initiative in prayer to claim what is your is in Christ. You must speak to Him - into the air, outloud. In your native tongue. You must listen for His answer. You must, like Paul, acknowledge with your lips that what He has allowed in your life is what is best. You must become like Him, and the only way to do that is to submit to him with all that you are and have. Nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. |
