Read the Bible. Although I am a strong proponent of memorization, my observation of the Church today is that Christians are lazy and want to be spoon-fed all the time. So, they do not read. The old nature is passive. But the First Commandment (reiterated in the Gospels) issues an edict to believers to love the Lord with all of their faculties - mind, body and soul. Have you ever meditated on this? It is a remarkable thing. If there has ever been one who has said he has done this, he is a fool. Yet, it is a commandment, and the most important one. That means we must posture ourselves before the Lord and present ourselves as being available for His priorities. Soldier, you will know little unless you are in The Word all the time. Do not be casual about this. Memorizing takes maximum effort. Reading is different, and it is where you must begin. If you read, memorization will be like water to a thirsty man. But read you must. Have you ever read the Bible as it has been written? (Reject these jump-around plans.) Start in Matthew and read the New Testament in order. Start with three chapters a day. When you have finished that, begin in Genesis and start memorizing a verse a day from the New Testament. The result? You will see Jesus!. |
