Do you know the beautiful hymn that begins: "Nothing between my soul and the
Savior. . . ?"
The old and great words go on to point out the world offers delusive dreams
that distract the believer from fellowship with the Lord.
All the goals of the world are harmful.
For example, while a good job is not harmful, making it a goal is.
A pleasant marriage is not harmful, but making it a goal to find someone who will make
you happy is harmful to the Christian.
Having children is wonderful, but if your goal is the success of your children, you will
be blind to everything else.
Any goal other than the pursuit of God is harmful because it will become an idol. Our
goals determine reactions to all circumstances and words. Our goals release or
harness the tongue when we see the faults of others.
It is critical to make a decision about taking as your own, the goals the Lord has set
before His Own.
To know Him.
To be like Him.
To recognize Him.
To wait for Him.
To serve Him.
Anything else is idolatry and self-service.
