Soldier, when you set your eyes on the One whose eyes blaze with Love, and
out of whose mouth comes the Two-edged Sword, you will be glad you did not give in
to tiredness or lethargy.
We simply may not live as those without Christ. Moreover, we have been called to
service, not to treading water until He comes.
The body will function well, even when it feels total spent.
Yes, we need rest. Yes we need refreshing. But we also need to be stretched and
to build up a holy endurance to run the race.
There is much to be done, and we are not entitled to an eight hour day.
We are not entitled to a day off.
We are not entitled to physical freedom.
We are not entitled to anything except what is eternal.
But, we have a Lord who tenderly watches over us and will withhold no good thing.
He cares about the smallest issues, including those of tiredness and aches.
There is much we don't understand and should not try, until we see Him. In the
meantime, the indwelling Holy Spirit gives wisdom and we can trust the Lord to lead
in the spending of our hours and minutes.
Well-meaning people often tell me how I ought to take much time to rest. And, it
may be that I indeed ought to rest more . I also know there have been those Soldiers who have
been ignited by the fire of God (like John Hyde) who slept little and fasted much.
While stewardship of the body is good, self-preservation is not.
Soldier, we are in the trenches. Do not cling to things that are silky.
