Even if nothing is immediately wrong, we should always be presenting ourselves before the Lord to be changed. When there is irritation, anger, resentment, jealousy, fear - all these things are signals that we must be healed in the very areas that have been hurt. If the offender has been stunningly wrong and even if absolutely anyone would agree, I must still be changed if I am harboring ill will, or if I must think or talk about it. If there is any kind of mark on my personality or my thought life because of what has been done to me, I need to change. That is the teaching of the whole Word of God. And the beautiful thing is that the Great Healer will sweep in with infinite creative healing, far beyond anything one could articulate in prayer, and He will make the broken place whole. Soldier, it is a great, flashing warning signal when I have a dark sting because of what someone else has done. Does the Bible not teach that God is sovereign? Didn't He say He has already robbed the world of its power to harm the Christian? These are concrete truths, but they can only be seen and appropriated by faith. This must be our constant prayer - "Lord, change me!" |
