Kindness is a stunning quality. Solomon says "What is desired in a man is loyalty and kindness. . ." Kindness differs from niceness. Kindness is the absolute absence of guile and presence of affirmative Grace. A kind believer is neither soft nor acquiescent, but he has been healed by the Master, and he can minister from the unending Source living within. The Bible speaks frequently of the Lord's Loving kindness, yet when Christians try to live out the concept, they often spiral in frustration and either implode or rupture. That is because kindness is not a concept. Kindness can not be ministered in human strength ongoingly. Human kindness is wonderful.. It is the lack of unkindness, and all can appreciate it when encountered. But kindness that flows forth from a Soldier of the Cross who is seeking the Lord and finds nothing else consummately interesting - that kindness is supernatural and goes far beyond a human depth. It heals. It creates a capacity to receive and give grace. It attracts the hungry heart. We must let the Lord wholly, wholly have us. He who made us and gave Himself for us has asked us to let Him make his likeness in us, and we must be about the business of submitting and seeking Him. Those who look for, wait for and rely on Him, become like Him. And those who are touched by His Own are never the same. |
