The reason repentance and confession are so critical is because these gifts
protect us from justifying our sin.
The believer who is serious about his relationship with the Lord has serious
sessions with Him concerning sin and temptation.
These are precious times. They corner the Christian into choosing words, and,
enabled by the Holy Spirit, he is able to express God's heart on thoughts and
actions - desires and regrets.
Soldier of the Cross, we do not take on a program of self-examination, but we
do submit ourselves to the One who is Holy. He longs to enable us to serve
unencumbered, and that can only happen when we confess and repent.
We all need it.
