It doesn't matter how many times you hear it, the flesh always wants to be prepared and have all the bases covered. So, when the Lord tells you over and over that you need to rely on Him, be assured that the flesh always resists. That is the reason you experience a craving to rehearse before the unknown. that is why you long for assurance after you have shared the Lord. That is the reason you feel so terrible flushed and foolish after you have been asked a question and you think you fumbled and said the wrong thing. I was saved because there was a preacher who was obedient enough to get behind the pulpit on a Sunday morning and wait for the Lord. He said "There will be no sermon today. I have only one statement - Jesus Christ is my first thought in the morning and my last thought at night. And, that is supernatural." Of course, I knew he was right. It was supernatural. But also, he made no bones about the fact that there would be nothing else said. Then he waited for the Lord to move. What happened then? I bolted out of the church. Do you think he went home and hit his head against the wall because he felt stupid? No. He had already dealt with that issue. Soldier of the Cross, you can know the same security. You can speak, testify and preach freely in the Power of the Holy Spirit when you are willing to be nothing. When a man is concerned with his performance or how he comes across, he still has not given room for the Lord to do absolutely anything. Soldier, you must tell Him outloud. How do you pray about your sharing the Gospel? How do you pray about your preaching? You must tell Him you will step aside. Dig deeper into the Word. Pray fiercely. Tell Him you will stand aside. Tell Him you want to be emptied of all but what He has to say. Then, stand up and wait. The Holy Spirit will identify which door to go through, and you and the listeners will see Jesus. |
