Here is the test of really being in touch with the Lord: How well do you receive correction? If someone tells you you have done something that should have been done differently, are you defensive? Do you need to state a reason why you don't agree? More significantly, do you need to explain why you did it that way, and in particular, that the other party gave you instructions to do exactly as you did? Do you get huffy? If so, you are not ready for Service. Soldier of the Cross, until you are dead, learn to receive correction. Soon I will be sixty. My life is about being corrected. As a musician, the conductor (and other musicians) are constantly looking for ways to improve and find a deeper interpretation. No one person can know everything, so each musician must submit to this. As a lawyer, I stand before a judge who has the last word, and with whom there is no argument. On top of that, the Lord has assigned me to a wonderful and more experienced attorney who is a fierce and beautiful taskmaster. She is uncompromising, and for me that means no excuses. My husband is a pastor. God is looking for those who will submit. Those who will stretch. Those who turn away from self- justification. Once and for all, look up and move on! |
