| The Lord does not count to three before issuing loving discipline to His own.
Neither should Christian parents count before enforcing a command to a child. In so doing, the parent thinks the child is being given a stern warning. In fact, that is not the case. The child is learning that he does not have to obey immediately. He can wait out two of the three counts, and he is still considered obedient. There are no consequences, and the next time, he will be even more concious of his power to hold out.
On a regular basis, I see parents giving multiple opportunities for children to obey. That is not Grace. It is passivity. There is always a consequence when a child of God delays obedience. We must teach our children to obey, and to obey without question. That is what our God requires, and if we love our children, we will prepare them to serve, to follow and to replicate in kind. We have no time to mess around.
